Nine hundred years ago, Huo Kaichen was a seasoned warrior who had fought on countless battlefields. Betrayed by a traitor, he was brutally murdered and became an immortal being who could neither die nor perish, with a sword forever embedded in his chest. Only the reincarnation of Princess Ling Yao can see the sword, and Huo Kaichen can find release only when it is pulled out. By chance, Huo Kaichen saves Wen Mengran and, seeing that her face is identical to Princess Ling Yao's, becomes convinced that Wen Mengran is the princess's reincarnation. Thus begins the tragic fate binding them together. If Wen Mengran refuses to pull out the sword, An Ran will die; if she pulls it out, Huo Kaichen will disappear. To avenge everyone who suffered nine hundred years ago, Huo Kaichen uses An Ran to pull out the sword and kills Zhao Tuo.
