At the age of eight, Tang Tang suddenly became able to understand animal speech. Her father Tang Mancang's zoo was on the verge of bankruptcy, but she used beast language to help a hippopotamus pick its teeth, cure Wangcai the mad lion who was afraid of chickens, and take in Xiucai the black bear who could do math.
