The chief disciple of the Nine Nether Sword Sect falls while undergoing the tribulation, and his soul drifts into the mortal world at the end of the Dharma age, where he is reincarnated as the much-humiliated live-in son-in-law of the Su family. After becoming embroiled in a honey-trap scandal, he unexpectedly discovers that his nominal wife, Su Qinghan, possesses the only remaining source of pure spiritual energy in the world. Breaking free from the shackles of his son-in-law status, he uses immortal alchemy to run Jishitang, a benevolent medical hall where he treats the sick and saves lives. He later joins a public hospital and reveals astonishing medical skills. Amid the grudges and entanglements of the mortal world, he searches for the secret source of spiritual energy and carefully plots his step-by-step return to the path of immortal cultivation.
