Welder Chen Mo returns to the sweltering basement, with the landmark skyscraper nearing its top-out behind him. Framed and driven away by his boss, Zhao Youcai, he is left without even the wages he rightfully earned. Zhao Youcai complains that he works too slowly and his welds look ugly, but he fails to understand that every inch of those patterns conceals a steel backbone beyond his comprehension. Chen Mo doesn't bother arguing. He simply maintains his welding machine as calmly as ever. Until the building reaches its final height, and the stress buried deep inside the reinforcing steel erupts right on schedule, as glaring red alarms tear apart the illusion of respectability.
