In 1986, Zhou Zheng, an outstanding worker, lost his housing allocation to Liu Wei, who had connections, and was assigned only a dilapidated warehouse at the eastern end. While everyone mocked him, he learned from Uncle Wang that abandoned heating pipes ran behind the walls. He renovated and reinforced the place with his pregnant wife, determined to protect their little family. Just as the warehouse was set to be demolished along East Construction Road and could be exchanged for a new home, the factory director, Qian Guangjin, made things difficult and sealed off the property. Zhou Zheng exposed Qian Guangjin by revealing a diary of corruption and photographs of accidents, cooperating with an investigation team to report him. In the end, Zhou Zheng moved into the Xingfuli residential community, welcomed the birth of his child, and changed the fate of three generations of his family.
