Tie Zhu works as a welder on a cross-river bridge construction site. Despite his outstanding skills, he is denied permanent employment because the available position goes to someone else. After discovering a critical crack and reporting it, he is suppressed and fired by chief engineer Zhou Dapeng. He then takes odd jobs at the docks, where he meets retired chief engineer Lin Guodong and takes on a reinforcement project for an old bridge, showcasing his exceptional abilities.
