In the early 1980s, village girl Su Xiutao is treated by her family, who favor sons over daughters, as a bargaining chip to secure a bride price. Her fiancé, Li Xiangdong, a commune official, cheats on her with the daughter of the supply and marketing cooperative director. He even tries to avoid paying back the bride price so he can marry into a wealthier family. Armed with evidence, she publicly exposes the scoundrel and demands compensation before setting off alone for the provincial capital. There, she happens to meet Cheng Tiejun, a hardworking former soldier. The two join forces to open a breakfast stall, starting with a street food cart and using her family's traditional recipes. Through hard work and determination, they gradually build a restaurant brand famous throughout the province. While her former fiancé ends up disgraced and dependent on his parents after a scandal involving his misconduct, Su Xiutao becomes a renowned businesswoman, achieving success in both her career and love life.
