Huo Yunjiao, a top modern female doctor, travels back to ancient times and saves the divine physician Wei Yanzhi. On their wedding day, Wei abandons her to run off with his scheming junior female apprentice, even allowing the woman to poison Huo and forcing her to drink a decoction that renders her infertile. Completely disillusioned, Huo leaves a divorce agreement and returns to the modern era through a bronze basin, reclaiming her brilliance as a renowned surgical specialist. Overcome with regret, Wei sacrifices his lifespan to follow her into the modern world, where his ancient medical practices and patriarchal beliefs are crushed by the modern era's overwhelming advantages, leaving him reduced to a beggar. His junior apprentice follows and sets off a bomb. Wei shields Huo from the blast, hoping to earn her forgiveness with his life. Huo saves him out of professional duty, but resolutely severs all ties with him.
