In early autumn 1988, Shen Qinghe of Lianxi Village found a four-year-old orphan, He Bao, at a wild lotus pond. He Bao was smart and perceptive, able to predict pond dangers and find rare crisp lotus roots in the pond. Relying on the crisp lotus roots, the Shen family started a business to counter the market suppression of merchant Hu Laosi, step by step building a Lianxi food processing base from digging lotus roots and making lotus root starch to processing water chestnut canned goods. The family joined hands with the villagers to develop the industry, and He Bao also completed her household registration, officially becoming a member of the Shen family. The barren pond completely transformed into a golden pond leading the whole village to prosperity.
