The Zhenguo General Ling Yun sets out on an expedition to the northern frontier, and on the eve of his departure, he makes an agreement with Princess Yongle to marry upon his triumphant return. On his way back with the army, he encounters an ambush and loses contact; the capital falsely spreads the rumor that he has perished, and the emperor plans to bestow Yongle in marriage upon his younger brother Ling Feng. Just as the imperial decree is being proclaimed, a narrowly surviving Ling Yun suddenly returns. Having weathered court suspicions, rumors, and the reigniting of war at the border, Ling Yun lets go of the paranoia and insecurity brought by the battlefield, while Yongle steadfastly holds to her original heart; together they break through wave after wave of obstacles and finally get married in fulfillment.
