Zhou Lan's Steamed Bun Shop, Eating It Does Not Give Heartburn tells the story of Zhou Lan, the head chef in the back kitchen of a breakfast shop, who is forced away by her boss Tang Lijuan for refusing to use spoiled meat filling, and starts her own business with a capital of thirty-two thousand. She insists on "mixing the filling on the same day and closing the stall after selling out," starting from sixty steamed buns. Despite going through supply cutoffs, price undercutting, order snatching, rumors, and framing, she still wins customers and food factory orders through genuine materials, public accounts, and strict processes. Tang Lijuan repeatedly plays dirty and ultimately reaps what she sows. Zhou Lan also grows from an artisan into a disciplined and responsible business operator.
