Heavenly Master successor Bai Fanyin goes down the mountain to visit her elder sister Bai Niaoniao who married far away to Kyoto, but discovers that her brother-in-law Xiao Shan, known as the "perfect husband", has an unusual physiognomy, and her elder sister's once-in-a-century good fortune is being obscured by black mist. Through a series of nocturnal investigations and metaphysical probes, Bai Fanyin is shocked to discover that Xiao Shan actually has a hidden legal wife Ning Ruyu and a pair of children, and is using the vicious "devouring technique" to let Ning Ruyu's soul occupy the magpie's nest, attempting to steal the Bai family's fortune to ward off disasters for the short-lived Xiao family. To save her elder sister, Bai Fanyin forcibly banishes Ning Ruyu's soul, and allies with the Prince Rui's third senior brother who carries a deep blood feud, embarking on a journey of revenge.
