Sun Bin and Pang Juan studied military strategy together under Guiguzi. Due to jealousy over Sun Bin's talent in military tactics, Pang Juan harbored a grudge. Pang Juan descended the mountain first to become the marshal of the State of Wei, but feeling threatened by Sun Bin's genius, he tricked him into coming to the State of Wei and subjected him to the punishment of having his kneecaps removed.
