Shen Yanchuan, an agricultural technician who has returned to his hometown, burns diseased and pest-infested crop stalks to prevent an impending infestation. However, his short-sighted cousin, Shen Yaozu, leads the villagers in reporting him. Eager to monopolize the planting of high-priced Aurora tomatoes, Shen Yaozu conceals the source of the pests in a warehouse and persuades the entire village to sign risky contracts and rush into planting. A month later, the pest disaster erupts, leaving the villagers who followed his lead with nothing. Shen Yaozu is forced to beg Shen Yanchuan to save the situation. In the end, Shen Yanchuan leads the entire village in rebuilding scientific farming practices, protecting both their land and the trust of their community.
