Chen Sen, a young man from a family of herbalists, is reborn in the year 2000. He gets his hands on the ancestral book, The Classic of Miraculous Medicinal Herbs and Immortal Plants, before anyone else and stops his uncle from taking away the family home. Together with his childhood friend, he risks his life venturing into the mountains to dig up a hundred-year-old ginseng king, raising enough money for his mother's surgery and paying off loan-shark debts. His greedy uncle repeatedly follows him in an attempt to steal his medicinal treasures and conspires with Long Er, a loan-sharking mine owner, to frame him. Chen Sen meets Zhao Suwan, the president of the Medicinal Materials Merchants Association. Together, they gather complete evidence of Long Er's illegal mining, loan-sharking, and production and sale of counterfeit inferior medicines, bringing him to justice. In the end, Chen Sen gives up wild herb gathering and builds an ecological medicinal herb cultivation base, leading the villagers in scientifically growing medicinal plants and finding a sustainable path to prosperity.
