Liang Zhenshan spends 460 yuan to buy a discarded old welding machine and a specialized positioning fixture from his factory. After repairing them, he takes on welding jobs to supplement his family's income. Hongxing Heavy Machinery Factory introduces automated welding equipment to fulfill an export order, but the work grinds to a halt because the components become distorted during welding. After searching everywhere, they discover that the discarded old fixture is actually the key to solving the problem. Under a rental agreement, Liang lends them the fixture and joins forces with retired master craftsman Luo Guangfu to ensure the order is delivered on time. In the end, Liang leads the establishment of a specialized welding technology team, bringing traditional and modern techniques together. His family finally gets the washing machine they have long wished for, while the old welding machine finds a new lease on life.
