At the Shangyuan Palace banquet, Su Miao, the legitimate daughter of the General's Mansion, accidentally eats poisonous pastries meant for the Empress Dowager and narrowly survives. Just as she is about to ask the Emperor to bestow a marriage to her long-admired Xiao Yanci, she accidentally overhears a maid's inner thoughts, learning that Xiao Yanci has long fathered a child with a maid in secret and will later frame the entire Su family. Quick-witted, Su Miao instead requests a cook from the Xiao residence, cleverly declining the marriage proposal. She turns her attention to the fifth prince, Li Chengyao, whose reputation is less than stellar, and actively approaches him despite the rumors. Li Chengyao, who appears frail and sickly, is actually biding his time and has long been deeply in love with Su Miao. When a polo match rebellion suddenly erupts, Su Miao gives a warning in advance, helping to quell the disaster. She breaks free from the tragic destiny of the original story, protects her family, and ultimately forms a happy union with Li Chengyao.
