The young Shen Jin possesses a mixed, defective spirit root and enters the Xuan Shuang Sect as a servant in the Abandoned Furnace Courtyard. By chance, he obtains the Hundred Refinements Furnace. He subsequently becomes an apprentice to the alchemy master Mo Yan to study the art of alchemy, while also looking after the servant A Miao. After turmoil strikes the sect, the three travel to the Borderlands' Chaotic Stone Town to settle down. Shen Jin makes a living by refining medicine while studying puppet techniques to improve his abilities. In search of rare spiritual materials needed to break through to a higher cultivation realm, he ventures alone into an ancient secret realm to collect spiritual plants, special metals, and cultivation manuals. Upon returning, he finds a secluded place to refine Foundation Establishment Pills. Using the ancient furnace to purify the pills, he steadily breaks through his bottleneck and successfully establishes his foundation, freeing himself from the limitations of his defective spirit root and embarking on a much broader path of cultivation.
