In the seventh month of the apocalypse, everyone is fleeing the city, but carpenter Chen Dashan heads in the opposite direction. He carries an old wooden chest back home, and inside is his seventeen-year-old daughter. She has been bitten. She hasn't turned into a monster, but she hasn't recovered either. The neighbors urge him to send her away, while the villagers wait to see what will burst out the moment he opens his door. He guards that one door and refuses to open it, no matter how much anyone tries to persuade him.
