Top actress Ye Wan arrives at an abandoned theater haunted by supernatural rules to film a Republic-era movie, Red Makeup. Thirty years ago, the original leading actress, Hongzhuang, was murdered after refusing investor Mr. Li's sexual advances. Her vengeful spirit remains trapped in the theater, where anyone who violates the filming rules meets a bizarre and gruesome death. Unfazed by the supernatural horrors, Ye Wan forms a bond with Hongzhuang after helping the ghost redo her makeup. Together, they gradually uncover evidence of Mr. Li's murder and bribery. When Mr. Li personally arrives at the theater and sets a trap to silence everyone by recreating the murder from thirty years ago, Ye Wan repeatedly defies the script and the rules. She burns the blood contract binding Hongzhuang and joins forces with the ghost to defeat Mr. Li in his monstrous film-reel form. With the evidence exposed, the decades-old wrongful death case is finally cleared, and the theater's haunting mystery comes to an end. Ye Wan safely leaves with her assistant.
