A Mu became mentally disabled at the age of three after being poisoned by a miasma, and he and his father, Li Dashan, depend on each other for survival. While gathering medicinal herbs, Li Dashan gets his leg trapped beneath a huge boulder. A Mu desperately kowtows and cries out, "Save my dad!" His cries awaken the Azure Dragon. Moved by A Mu's pure and sincere heart, the dragon helps him rescue his father, restores his mind, and gives him a dragon scale for protection. The greedy Liu Wancai trespasses into the Peach Blossom Paradise, cuts down a spiritual tree, and smashes a jade wall, shattering a thousand-year-old seal and unleashing the Black Dragon. The benevolent dragon is defeated. A Mu cuts his wrist and offers his blood as a sacrifice, awakening his spiritual meridians and helping the Azure Dragon turn the tide, but leaving him with only one year to live. The Azure Dragon sacrifices a thousand years of cultivation to save A Mu, while Liu Wancai suffers the backlash of his own greed. A Mu returns home safely, gazing toward the green mountains and cherishing the extraordinary bond forged through life and death.
