Modern female water conservancy worker Xu Maimiao time-travels to Qingshi Village in the Great Liang dynasty, starting off by being sunk into a river as a god sacrifice. Using her meteorological knowledge to predict heavy rain and save herself, she exposes Fairy Liu's witchcraft scam. Her second uncle colludes with the fairy to forge a house deed and seize their family property, while successive strange occurrences plague the village, such as well water poisoning and granary theft by spontaneous combustion. Xu Maimiao discovers the water channel map left by her father, finding out that the severe drought was caused by wealthy merchants collaborating with the Mysterious Heavenly Cult to privately intercept river water. Befriending the upright county assistant Xie Jingxing, she unmasks the cult's illusions one after another, tracing her father who has been missing for three years to the Black Stone Mine. Faced with the cult's coercion, Xu Maimiao joins hands with the government to expose their crimes of monopolizing water sources, hoarding grain for profit, and abducting people to pay off debts, thereby breaking feudal superstitions.
