Herb gatherer Shen Changhe rescues the spiritual snake Chiyao who was injured during the heavenly tribulation at Chixia Mountain, accidentally touches the peach blossom scale, and forms a companion marriage contract with her. Chiyao takes human form to repay the kindness, healing her mother-in-law's eyes, yet she repeatedly encounters suspicion and framing because of her demonic body. Facing the Poison Boy, water severance, and a hundred-li severe drought, she repays evil with kindness time and again, and finally sacrifices her life to summon down three heavenly lightning bolts to split open the underground water veins. The love between the mortal and the spiritual snake also ushers in a miracle amidst the prayers of the entire village.
