In the 1980s, the family of Li Laoguai, an elderly herbalist in Medicine Mountain Village, falls into desperate hardship. His son has passed away, his daughter-in-law has left, and all that remains are gambling debts and his seriously ill grandson, Li Aqiang. Desperate to earn money for his grandson's life-saving treatment, Li Laoguai ventures into the snowy mountains, only to find himself and the other villagers surrounded by a pack of wolves.
