A thousand-year-old ginseng takes human form as a three-year-old toddler, Nuo Nuo, and falls into the mortal world where she is adopted by the impoverished Lin family. She has a ginseng-fruit birthmark on her palm and is imbued with floral and arboreal spiritual energy, capable of healing illnesses and injuries, and drawing good fortune and luck. Four older brothers and sisters vie to cherish her, and the whole family fights to the death to protect each other in the face of wild boars, villains, rumors, and a demonic Taoist priest. Nuo Nuo says in her childish voice, "Little Nuo is Mother's lucky doll." The family guards one another, and their days grow warmer and warmer, interpreting that "as long as the family is together, everywhere is home."
