In 1978, magpies chattered outside the Li family home all night, and Fubao was born with the destiny of a koi fish. Eight years later, when the little girl—so poor they couldn't even keep the pot boiling—was feeding a dog, she actually understood what the dog was saying: she could understand the voices of all things. From then on, the Li family soared: digging up food coupons, unearthing ancient copper coins, finding spring water, raising fat pigs, enclosing fish ponds, and saving koi fish. Every single meal featured white flour, and the whole village lined up to call her the Little Koi. Their neighbor, Widow Zhang, was consumed with bitter hatred, resorting to poisoning, spreading rumors, contract traps, hiring a pseudo-immortal, and arson. All five successive assassination and sabotage plots were exposed by Fubao with the help of animal forces. By episode ten, a mouse exposes the true culprit's defining feature: a blue cloth shirt and a scar on the left hand.
