Modern-day girl Xin Yueying accidentally transmigrates into a novel after criticizing its ending. Instead of becoming the heroine, Meng Ruxin, she becomes Xin Siniang, the cannon-fodder original wife whose first task is to poison the treacherous Chief Minister Shen Qingqi, only to meet her end immediately afterward. To save her life, she abandons her predecessor's vicious nature and desperately tries to redeem her reputation. She takes on the scheming white-lotus heroine, outwits the villainous supporting characters, carefully treats Shen Qingqi's disabled legs, and helps him overcome one crisis after another. Along the way, what begins as a desperate attempt to survive gradually turns into a sincere desire to protect this tragic powerful minister. Meanwhile, Shen Qingqi, originally cold and ruthless, is moved by her sincerity and slowly opens his heart to her. In the end, Xin Yueying successfully rewrites the tragic ending, not only saving Shen Qingqi but also finding genuine love.
