Modern-day PhD student Fang Ziqi unexpectedly dies and transmigrates into the body of an eight-year-old peasant boy in the Great Qian Dynasty. Facing a biased grandfather, a vicious aunt by marriage, and a desperately poor household, he uses his modern knowledge to turn his fortunes around. He sells kudzu starch to save money for tuition, memorizes the Three Character Classic to earn a chance to study, and astonishes the academy with his poetry. At just eight years old, he becomes the top candidate in the county-level imperial examination, and at nine, he earns the title of licentiate. Along the road of imperial examinations, he repeatedly falls victim to schemes, but uses his intelligence to overcome every trap. From defeating enemies on the frontier to battling corrupt officials at court, he introduces new policies and reforms the bureaucracy. Ultimately, the child who once stood behind a kudzu starch stall grows into a great chancellor of his generation and ushers in an age of prosperity.
