In the 1970s, during the era of youths being sent down to the countryside, village girl Zheng Xiaoxia flees a wild boar, stumbles into a rumored haunted house and unexpectedly runs into Ma Xiaoman, an educated youth newly sent to the village. Ma Xiaoman insists on proposing and marries Zheng Xiaoxia in a flash. Though he seems like a rascal, Ma Xiaoman actually comes from a revolutionary family with substantial wealth, and he dotes on Zheng Xiaoxia completely. After the wedding, the two live sweetly, build up their household and help their relatives and friends, and soon their daughter Wanwan is born. Little do they know that Wanwan is a little fox fairy reincarnated after being struck by lightning, bearing the mark of the fox clan. After her first-month celebration, a mysterious old man knocks on their door late at night and reveals Wanwan's unusual origins, foreshadowing danger for the family's peaceful life.
