Shen Mei, the courtesan of Zuishong Pavilion, sells her arts but not her body. Su Fufu, sold at age seven, served as her body double for five years, enduring endless humiliation. The Fourth Prince, pursuing a corrupt official into the pavilion, fell in love with Shen Mei at first sight, gifting her a jade thumb ring and a pipa, but was loftily rejected twice. Driven to despair, Su Fufu picked up the thumb ring in public, touching the Fourth Prince with a mournful flute melody, and was finally redeemed for a thousand taels of gold. Shen Mei spread illustrated booklets to ruin her reputation, which instead became a stepping stone to securing favor. When the Fourth Prince won the succession and ascended the throne, Su Fufu was conferred as Lady Fu, received an imperial decree to confiscate Zuishong Pavilion, handed Shen Mei—who poisoned her sisters—and the madam who forced decent women into prostitution over to the Three Judicial Courts for trial and sentencing, and established a charitable home to shelter destitute women, completing her counter-attack from a dust-world body double to a current imperial consort.
