In May, when garlic scapes are harvested in abundance, buyer Chen Yang warns the villagers that four days of heavy rain are coming and urges them to sell their stock early to minimize their losses. Instead, they accuse him of being unscrupulous and deliberately driving down prices. The villagers turn to the high-priced purchasing channels offered by university graduates Xu Weiwei and Gao Xiang, determined to take their chances. Unexpectedly, the rain arrives right on schedule, and hundreds of tons of garlic scapes rot on a massive scale, leaving them with nothing but losses. Realizing their mistake, the villagers apologize to Chen Yang and agree to cooperate according to the rules the following year.
