Chen Wang, a modern marketing expert, travels through time and becomes an imperial censor in the Great Chu Dynasty. After offending the prime minister, he is demoted to the impoverished Ling County in the western frontier. Adapting to local conditions, he improves crops with potatoes and chili peppers, revitalizes the economy with his marketing expertise, and establishes restaurants, workshops, and county schools. Leading the people out of poverty and into prosperity, he eventually brings down corrupt powerful officials. Yet he remains true to his original ideals, continuing to serve the people and devote himself to improving life in the countryside.
