In the cold winter of 1978, Lu Dashan turned over a new leaf, determined to shake off his past lazy habits and shoulder the heavy responsibilities of his family. Facing the unreasonable exploitation of his biased family, he resolutely set up his own household, relying on exquisite hunting and ginseng-gathering skills to make a living in the mountains, improving family life and devoting himself to caring for his wife Lin Wan'er. After becoming wealthy himself, he let bygones be bygones and helped villagers get through disasters by organizing house-building and leading the whole village in winter fishing, eventually punishing lawbreakers and welcoming a bumper harvest in both career and family.
