With heavy snow blocking the mountain roads, Grandma Wang, who lives alone, takes in a strange young beast with long, curved horns and names it Niu Niu. Intelligent and incredibly strong, Niu Niu is nevertheless branded a "bringer of disaster" by the entire village because of its terrifying appearance. Its attempts to save sheep are misunderstood, and its good deeds are kept hidden. Faced with the whole village turning against it and even its owner's grandson misunderstanding it, Niu Niu can only silently endure and retreat. But when packs of wolves and wild boars launch a coordinated attack on the village, just as the villagers are losing all hope, the very monster they once cursed and drove away stands at the village entrance, defending it with its own flesh and blood. When the truth finally comes to light, prejudice turns into remorse, and a tearful story of redemption between humans and a spirit beast begins.
