In the 1980s, heavy snowfall sealed off the mountains, leaving Qingshan Village without food. Young A Fang's father had passed away, and his stepmother had remarried, leaving him alone to care for his seriously ill younger sister, Xiao He. While venturing into the mountains, he rescued a frozen, featherless chicken from a snowdrift. The entire village mocked him, calling it an ill-omened bird. Little did they know that the bald chicken was actually a phoenix! It not only spoke to warn of an avalanche on the southern mountain, but also attracted a black bear bearing honey and led a wild boar to unearth a precious wild ginseng root, helping the siblings survive the food shortage. Trusting its warning, A Fang built a pointed snow wall to protect them from danger. When the avalanche struck as predicted, the chicken revealed its true phoenix form and unleashed a golden light to stop the rushing snow. The avalanche miraculously changed direction right at A Fang's doorstep, protecting him and Xiao He, while the other villagers paid the price for their prejudice.
