Chen Dashan and his wife save an injured nine-tailed white fox undergoing heavenly tribulation. The white fox repays the kindness by breaking its tail to help them exchange for wealth to cure their son. However, the couple's greed expands, repeatedly and forcefully cutting the fox's tail to amass wealth. The treasures transformed by the fox tail turn entirely into flying ash, and the two incur huge debts. They abandon the dying white fox in the gravel beach. Kind hunter A Xin passes by and rescues the white fox, asking for no gold or silver reward. The greedy couple, in order to repay their debts, collude with villains to enter the mountain and encircle the white fox. The white fox reveals its spiritual power to repel everyone, and retreats into seclusion in Qingqiu. A Xin holds the Fox Spirit Jade and gains the protection of the mountains and forests. The greedy couple rely on labor to redeem their sins, verifying that good and evil have their rewards.
