Reborn in the 1980s, Lu Shanhe breaks free from the disastrous marriage and family exploitation he endured in his previous life. With his foresight, he builds wealth by selling eels and supplying vegetables, develops an improved rice-transplanting machine, and seizes the opportunities of the times to start his own business. He stands up to greedy relatives, resolves crises, and helps those around him. As he and educated youth Shen Wei gradually fall in love, he builds his career while breaking free from the constraints of outdated social conventions and begins a new life of his own.
