While fishing in a forbidden area of their village, Dashan and Xiaoli encounter a mysterious giant fish. Their fishing rods break one after another, yet they still fail to catch it. Unwilling to give up, Dashan teams up with his friend A Jie to challenge the fish again. They eventually catch a huge catfish full of roe. Xiaoli takes pity on it and urges Dashan to release it, but he insists on killing it and hosting a feast. From that day on, strange things begin happening at home: the well water turns murky, someone knocks on the door in the middle of the night, and their chickens mysteriously drown.
