An elderly fisherman encounters danger at sea and unexpectedly gains special abilities: he can breathe underwater and understand the language of aquatic creatures. He realizes that his son is greedy for the family fortune and hopes he will perish at sea. The old man decisively cuts ties with his son and lives alone in a makeshift shelter by the shore. He cooperates with marine creatures, clearing harmful sea urchins that damage underwater fishing grounds in exchange for rare seafood to sell. Relying on his own skills, he makes a living independently and confronts his son when he comes to seize his earnings.
