Lu Zheng, an engineering director, is framed through a conspiracy between his apprentice and the finance department. His female superior, Xu Zhiwei, transfers him to the Gobi Desert. Unexpectedly, a sudden flood strikes a tunnel at headquarters, and those who drove him away are forced to ask for his help. Lu Zheng remotely assists with the emergency rescue, exposes shoddy construction and fraudulent accounts, but refuses to trade his silence for the position of deputy general manager, insisting that his name be cleared. Reuniting with old friends, he restarts a suspended project and brings fresh water into dry canals before heading to the plateau and out to sea to tackle new engineering challenges. Xu Zhiwei also moves from misplaced trust and condescension to admitting her mistakes and taking responsibility.
