Shen Zhiqiu, the college student funded by Qingfeng Village, returns home to grow mushrooms. However, village head Shen Degui leads villagers to seize the land and mushrooms, leaving behind a breach-of-contract contract worth 400,000. Torrential rain destroys the sheds, and the blood, sweat and tears money is embezzled and squandered. The whole village wakes up in the ruins, and three visits to the thatched cottage invite Shen Zhiqiu back. She sets rules and checks old accounts, father and son sign IOU notes to work off their debts, villagers relearn division of labor and duty-keeping, and finally pay off the old accounts, exchanging for sincere reconciliation and a full shed of harvest. What truly belongs to oneself must be earned with one's own hands.
