I Wait for Spring on the Wasteland
Su He marries far from home to the desolate northwest, only to endure three years of waiting in exchange for her husband's indifference and betrayal. Determined to move on, she divorces him and moves into a dilapidated earthen house with her daughter. Starting with a bowl of pickled vegetables and a bottle of sand scallion sauce, she leads the women of the wasteland in building a livelihood from scratch. Together, they plant sea buckthorn forests amid the blowing sand and protect their green homeland with ecological accounting, transforming the Wasteland Su Family from a humble earthen-house workshop into a community processing factory. When a sandstorm unseen in a decade is stopped by the forest, Su He finally understands that she no longer needs to wait for spring—she herself is the most resilient touch of green on the wasteland.
