Lin Zhi has endured her husband Gu Boyu's infidelity and the heartbreak of their struggles to have a child. When her mother-in-law falsely claims to be seriously ill to pressure them into divorcing, Gu Boyu suggests getting a fake divorce. Lin Zhi plays along, completes the division of their assets, waits out the mandatory divorce cooling-off period, and finally obtains her divorce certificate. She exposes her mother-in-law's fake illness, only to discover that the older woman really has stomach cancer. Lin Zhi then moves to the capital city for a new job and reports Gu Boyu, costing him his position. When Gu Boyu begs her to take him back, Lin Zhi firmly rejects him and begins a brand-new life.
