While on the road to exile, Shen Sui Sui accidentally activates a black stone pendant that allows her to travel to the modern world and understand the languages of all kinds of animals. Her family is being exiled to Lingnan, but along the way, they suffer from a shortage of food and clothing, while her mother is seriously ill. Traveling between the two worlds, Sui Sui uses modern supplies and skills to buy food and tools, and learns to read, write, and keep accounts. She rescues trapped little animals in exchange for rewards, leads her family in learning practical crafts to earn a living, and helps other exiled people survive famine by searching for waterways and old maps. Together, everyone overcomes one hardship after another and finally reaches their resettlement destination, where they begin a new, peaceful life.
