Eight-year-old Yao Nianchu lives with her grandmother Sun Guifang, while her mother Yao Jingwen works at a hospital in another city. Busy with square dancing, grandmother ignores Nianchu's pleas of hunger and fear, and even lies that the child is right beside her. When Nianchu faints while looking for food alone at home, a blue cat named Mantou scratches the door for help. Neighbors, teachers, and Zhou Lan join forces in the search, rushing her to the hospital. A devastated Yao Jingwen demands accountability, finally seeing the grievances her daughter has hidden for too long. Sun Guifang sincerely apologizes, and Yao Jingwen transfers back locally, giving Nianchu a safe home once again through picking her up from school, accompanying her at meals, and listening patiently. This is a belated redemption of familial love.
