Chen Xiangdong, a compulsive gambler, squanders the family fortune and then loses his entire family in a catastrophic flood caused by a dam breach. Reborn three days before the disaster, he comes to his senses, sells the furniture in his ancestral home, and stockpiles food and supplies, planning to take his family to shelter in a cave in the back mountains. He faces doubts from his loved ones, ridicule from villagers, and obstruction from the village bully, Jia Futang. As his repeated warnings about impending disasters prove accurate, Chen earns their trust and joins forces with the village chief to organize an evacuation, reinforce shelters, and lead everyone in resisting the floodwaters and landslides. He exposes Jia Futang's crimes committed under cover of the disaster. After the flood, Chen seeks no fame or glory, instead rebuilding the village with its residents and improving its early-warning systems. Through his actions, the former gambler atones for his past and protects his family and the entire village.
