Su Ye, an assassin of the Hidden Night Bureau, is ordered to sneak into the Xiuwen Pavilion to assassinate the Prime Minister in a Skirt, Shangguan Wan'er. She was supposed to finish her with one blade, but instead, while grinding ink, copying poetry, and reviewing poems, she sees Wan'er protecting humble scholars with her brush, exchanging seals for exiles, and leaving poetry to the world. On the night of the coup, Wan'er calmly meets her death, entrusting her draft of Caishu Yuan to her. Su Ye disobeys orders and flees, traveling far away to a small town to teach and transmit poetry, guarding a single promise with her life: poetry lives longer than people.
