To protect his childhood sweetheart, Guihua, Er Niu seriously injures Liu Laizi, the village bully, and is sentenced to ten years in prison. After his release, he discovers that his mother has cried herself blind because of him, while his younger sister, Er Ya, married young and suffers domestic abuse. Burdened by guilt and determined to care for his mother, Er Niu marries Xiulan, a kind and resilient woman who is already pregnant. Unexpectedly, Guihua returns, hoping to rekindle their old romance, but Er Niu has already taken on the responsibility of supporting his family and painfully turns her down. When Liu Laizi starts harassing Guihua again, Xiulan devises a plan. Er Niu, Er Ya, and Guihua join forces to set a trap and obtain evidence of his crimes, finally bringing the village bully to justice.
