Village chef Du Shoushan initially accepts an order to cater the Yu family's baby's one-month celebration banquet, but his former sous-chef, Qin Haifeng, steals the job by offering sixteen dishes at a lower price. Qin puts on an impressive feast, while Du loses one catering order after another. He then adjusts his menu to fit the host family's budget and wins back his reputation with ten dishes at a graduation celebration banquet. After competing for a birthday banquet order, the two chefs find themselves cooking in separate kitchens in the same courtyard for the Wei family's wedding. Qin handles the main banquet, while Du is assigned just three tables for the bride's elderly relatives and children. On the wedding day, the wedding procession is delayed, and the guest count suddenly rises from eighty tables to ninety-six. However, the kitchen has prepared enough ingredients for only eighty-five tables. Dishes are repeatedly sent back, and some guests begin feeling unwell. Purchasing records and the separate kitchens eventually reveal what went wrong, allowing the hosts to see both chefs in a new light.
