Lu Chen, a handyman with mixed five-elements veins, is robbed of his chance encounter by the heaven's pride Li Jinglei, and framed by law enforcement elder Zhao Xuanji, being cast into the Waste Abyss. Near death, his ancestral copper furnace awakens into the Hongmeng Immortal Furnace, which can refine waste into divine pills and holy weapons, and his Chaos Dao physique begins to manifest. He secretly rescues Leng Qingshuang and Lin Wang, returns to the outer sect grand competition, and defeats Li Jinglei with a single sword; he then exposes Zhao Xuanji and brings him down. Behind the scenes, supreme elder Situ Aotian sets up a scheme to extend his life, and Leng Qingshuang protects him with her sword. Lu Chen enters the earth veins to temper his Dao physique, repels the demon sect on the day of the grand sacrifice, ends Situ Aotian, and publicly tries the aristocratic families. Finally, he disperses his Dao power to nourish the spiritual veins, breaks the old rule of only spiritual roots, and retires into the sea of clouds with Leng Qingshuang.
